Make Your Tax Payments Online

In 2025, President Trump signed an executive order eliminating paper check refunds as of September 2025 and encouraging both individuals and businesses to pay their taxes electronically. The IRS has a few different options for paying your taxes online. You can also schedule payments up to a year in advance - which is helpful for scheduling estimated tax payments so that you don't forget them. Below are links to where you can make those payments along with some information about paying Indiana taxes online. If you're looking for more information on paying the Indiana Pass-Through Entity Taxes (PTET) for your business(es), click here to go to our dedicated PTET page.

Pay Online with the IRS

The best way to make a payment online with the IRS is through your IRS account. Go to https://www.irs.gov/your-account. If you have not set up an account, we encourage you do so. If you already have an ID.me account, you will use that to login. Using your IRS account, you can check on your refund status, view any balances due, view prior returns and payments, approve electronic Power of Attorney requests from us, schedule your payments, view letters and notices, and check on the status of an amended return.

You can also make payments online without an account. Go to https://www.irs.gov/payments. You can choose between paying with your bank account or a credit/debit card. There is a fee that varies by card type if you choose that method. It is extra important to save your confirmation numbers if you pay without an account.

When scheduling your payments (especially without an account), be sure to pay attention to the options you choose for applying the payment.

Pay Online with the Indiana Department of Revenue

While Indiana hasn't made any announcements about eliminating payments by check and voucher, they have been working on expanding the functionality of INTIME. INTIME allows you to view and make payments, send messages to IDR, view filing history, approve Power of Attorney requests from us, and more.

Creating and using an INTIME account to make your payments is encouraged. You can login or setup your INTIME account here: https://intime.dor.in.gov/eServices/_/. When logged in, it is easy to find the tax type and period you need to make a payment. While on the Summary tab, you will see a list of all your tax types. For each type, you will have an option to make a payment. After your tax return is processed, the balance owed will be shown. You can choose "Make a payment" to pay both your balance due and any estimates.

You can also pay online through INTIME without an account here: https://intime.dor.in.gov/eServices/_/#2. Without an account, you'll need to choose the type of payment you're making. The most common option is "Non-bill payments" as this includes estimated tax payments and balances due on a filed return. If you've received a letter about a late payment, use the "Bill payments" option. You can choose to pay with your bank account without a fee or you can use your credit card with a fee.

  • For Individuals -
    • You'll choose either "Return Payment" or "Estimated Payment" as the payment type. Then you'll need to be sure to choose the correct filing period so that the payment is applied correctly.
    • If you're making an estimated tax payment, you'll also need to enter your county of residence or indicate that you are not an Indiana resident.
  • For Businesses -
    • You'll choose from "Return Payment", "Estimated Payment", "Extension Payment", or "Withholding (IT-6WTH)" as the payment type. Be sure to choose the correct period for applying the payment.
    • If you're looking to make a Pass-Through Entity Tax (PTET) payment for your S Corporation or Partnership, please visit our dedicated PTET page for more information.
